UNAVAILABLE ABORTION RECORDS

The following Hospital Separation records are unavailable from Population Data BC:

For records that have ICD9 diagnosis codes:

• If the diagnosis code is:
  • 635  Legally induced abortions

In technical terms if any of the diagnoses codes on the record have the number ‘635’ as the digits in position 2-4.

For records that have ICD10 diagnosis codes:

• If the diagnosis code is:
  • 004  Medical abortion

Records are unavailable if the first three characters of any of the 25 diagnoses codes start with ‘O04’.

For records that have CCP codes:

• If there is a ccp procedure with one of these codes:
  • 870  Intra-Amniotic injection for termination of pregnancy
  • 871   Vacuum aspiration for termination of pregnancy
  • 872   Other termination of pregnancy
  • 864   Other removal of embryo

Records are unavailable if the first three characters of any of the 10 procedure codes OR out of province procedure codes on the record start with ‘870’, ‘871’, ‘872’, or ‘864’.

For records that have CCI codes:

• If there is a CCI procedure with one of these codes:
  • 5CA8 Surgical or pharmalogical termination of pregnancy
  • 5CA9 Selective fetal reduction/surgical removal of extra-uterine pregnancy

Records are unavailable if the first four characters of any of the 20 CCI codes or out of province CCI codes start with 5CA8 or ‘5CA9’
