PRIVACY TRAINING FOR RESEARCHERS

Access to data is conditional upon researchers and other members of the research team successfully completing Population Data BC Privacy training.

The purpose of this training is to familiarize researchers and research teams with their ongoing privacy and security obligations regarding the use and protection of data contained in the Research Extract.

The training covers requirements under the following:

  • Privacy principles and legislation such as the Freedom of Information and the Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA)
  • The Data Access Request (DAR)/Research Agreement
  • Population Data BC requirements

A score of 80% on the test is required for successful completion of this privacy training requirement.  Where an individual fails to achieve this score, they will be asked to re-do the privacy training, including a new test.  Only after successful completion of this training will Population Data BC grant the individual access to the Research Extract.

The training and testing should take approximately 20 to 30 minutes.
