Content expert: Nathaniel Bell

This workshop provides an introduction to geographic information systems (GIS) and its strengths for research in the areas of health and well-being. It also includes valuable information pertaining to the access and availability of data for health-related research in British Columbia.

This workshop covers:

  • How GIS has been used to increase our understanding of health conditions.
  • Fundamental design and construction techniques used to create linkages between health databases and geographic identifiers.
  • Key data sources available to health researchers in BC.
  • Use of health data for creation of health data maps in GIS to explore the spatial pattern of disease and health outcomes.

In the video below, Perry Hystad outlines the workshop content.
