Tom Symons Research Fellowship - The Tom Symons Research Fellowship Program offers support to PhD candidates who are working on their theses and are interested in using one of a variety of microdata now available from longitudinal surveys, administrative data and other sources. Through this program, Statistics Canada provides access to the master versions of these microdata at its Ottawa headquarters, as well as limited financial support. Deadline: April 15

Canadian Ecohealth Training and Awards Program - As part of the educational mandate of this initiative, CoPEH-Canada will be hosting an 11-day short course entitled Ecosystem Approaches to Health (Ecohealth) in Guelph, Ontario at the University of Guelph from Monday July 6 to Friday July 17, 2009. A maximum of twenty-five participants will be accepted into the 2009 short course, including up to twenty graduate students (eligible for "Graduate Training Awards") and up to five career development positions for those actively working in the field (eligible for "Career Development Training").

Geographical Epidemiology - The importance of the geographical location of diseases and infections is widely recognized by researchers and health care officials. Disease and risk mapping, as well as the identification of disease clusters, have become important issues for students and professionals in public health.

There is also great interest to link the location of disease occurrence to spatially varying risk factors. This course presents a practical and comprehensive overview of geographical epidemiology. Participants are introduced to the notions of spatial data, epidemiology and map-making. The emphasis of the course will be on spatial statistical methods and their application in public health, epidemiology, veterinary science and medical geography.

The course is designed for public health practitioners and researchers, students and faculty from disciplines such as veterinary epidemiology, biostatistics and medical geography.

Summer Program in Data Analysis - York's Summer Program in Data Analysis (SPIDA) is an eight-day series of intensive lectures and workshops designed to train social science researchers in the theory and practice of topical statistical methods. Topics vary by year.

Population Research Institute and the Centre for Spatially Integrated Social Science - Provide workshops on a variety of subject areas related to population science with a focus on GIS and spatial analysis methods.
