ETU Survey Draw - We have a winner!
We’d like to thank everyone who responded to our Education and Training (ETU) Survey this fall. We received a total of 136 completed surveys from a wide range of individuals including faculty, graduate students, researchers and health professionals. Respondents also represented our expanding network in BC, across Canada and internationally.
Our lucky draw winner is Sarah Costa, a health economist with The Canadian Centre for Applied Research in Cancer Control, based at the BC Cancer Agency. Currently Sarah’s work focuses on conducting cost-effectiveness analyses of personalized approaches to lymphoid cancer management as well as case-level costing using BC administrative datasets. She received her MSc from the University of Toronto and is currently enrolled in the Population Health and Data Analysis (PHDA) certificate program offered by PopData and the University of Victoria. Sarah is looking forward to applying the ETU training credit voucher toward future PopData seminars that deal with using administrative datasets to answer health services research questions.
“Summary highlights from the survey provided valuable information on the breadth of research interests and scope of training needs,” said Ann Greenwood, PopData’s Education and Training Unit Lead. “Preferred modes of training included: in-person training, summer sessions, ‘how to guides’, video conferencing, and one-on-one counselling. Topic areas of greatest training interest included: data management, epidemiological statistics, program monitoring and evaluation, longitudinal analysis, spatial analysis of health data as well as R and SAS software skills.”
Thank you to everyone who provided suggestions related to instructor expertise, referenced specialized training interests or put their name forward for additional focus group feedback. We will be contacting you in the coming weeks to learn more.
If you didn’t have time to share your training interests with us, it’s not too late! We’d still love to hear from you!
