Syncope and the subsequent risk of motor vehicle crash: A population-based analysis
The objective of this study is to provide patients, clinicians, and policymakers with evidence to guide driving recommendations and licensing policy following syncope.
The specific research questions and hypotheses are:
Research Question 1: Is an emergency department (ED) visit for syncope associated with an increased risk of subsequent motor vehicle crash (MVC)?
Hypothesis 1: An ED visit for syncope is associated with an increased risk of subsequent MVC.
Research Question 2: What subgroups of syncope patients are at highest risk of subsequent MVC?
Hypothesis 2: Clinical features, medical history, and driving history can be used to estimate the risk of subsequent MVC after an ED visit for syncope.
