Post-discharge readmission and mortality among children being repatriated from northern communities: Derivation of prediction models
Based on analysis of prior pediatric re-admissions and post-discharge mortalities from northern rural and remote communities, we believe we can generate a clinical prediction model that will detect post-discharge risk of either re-admission or mortality with a sensitivity of greater than 85% and specificity of greater than 60%.
We will use systematic collection of relevant candidate predictor variables among children referred to, and discharged from, referral hospitals in BC to develop a parsimonious and relevant clinical prediction model for post-discharge re-admission and mortality. Using a retrospective cohort design, we aim to achieve the following objectives:
(1) identify the frequency of post-discharge readmission and mortality; and
(2) develop a prediction model of post-discharge readmission and mortality among children who are sent home to their communities in the Northern Health region and Yukon territory.
