Research objective:

Objective 1) Increase our understanding of how rates of mesothelioma have changed over time, by demographic (e.g. sex, age, geographical region) and by tumour characteristics (e.g. year of diagnosis, tumour site).

Objective 2) Evaluate survival and factors such as geographical location, sex, and age, that may impact mesothelioma survival in BC.

Objective 3) To predict when the epidemic of mesothelioma will peak in BC, accounting for historical and current exposures.

Hypothesis: Based on prior research, it is expected that the disease model will yield a peak in mesothelioma rates followed by a decline. These findings may help compensation boards prepare for an increase in compensation claims as mesothelioma cases peak in BC and Canada.
