We are pleased to announce that Kim McGrail has been appointed as the first Scientific Director of Population Data BC (PopData). This is a newly created role in the organization that provides overall leadership, board engagement, and a focus on external relations and strategy development. The role is part of a management restructure that also sees the creation of a Managing Director position.

Kim brings to the role 15 years of experience in administrative data work, from hands on directing of the BC Linked Health Database, to over ten years as an internationally active researcher and heavily engaged PopData Advisory Board member.

“We are excited that Kim will be the inaugural Scientific Director of PopData,” says Norbert Haunerland, Associate Vice President, Research, Simon Fraser University and PopData Interim Advisory Board Member. “With a long history of working with our diverse stakeholders, Kim is ideally positioned to advance PopData’s exceptionally successful partnerships and increase its impact.”

Michael Hayes, Director of Health Education and Research at the University of Victoria, has served with Kim on PopData’s Advisory Board for the past 9 years. “Kim has a unique combination of vision and practicality in this complicated field. These are exciting times for data linkage and population health research and I can’t think of anyone better placed to take PopData to the next level.”

The position takes effect May 1, 2016 for a three year term.
